Utility to lure osprey away from power lines
BEACON FALLS, Conn.—Connecticut Light & Power is giving a new home to ospreys in Beacon Falls to encourage the birds to nest in an area away from utility lines.
CL&P says it will install a specially built platform on top of a 60-foot utility pole Friday morning. The utility says the platform will lure the fish-eating bird of prey from nesting in areas that would damage lines and cause power outages.
CL&P, a subsidiary of
Connecticut's smaller utility, United Illuminating, battled monk parakeets several years ago. It removed the birds from nesting areas on power lines and was forced into a court fight against an animal protection group trying to halt the killing of the birds.![]()
