STAMFORD, Conn.—Police say an 8-year-old boy died after falling out a sixth-story window of an elderly housing complex in Stamford.

The Advocate (http://bit.ly/MbRO9l) reports that police and firefighters were called to the 10-story Rippowam Manor on Saturday night.

Police Capt. Richard Conklin tells the newspaper that officers found the boy on an outdoor terrace on the side of the building. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police have not identified the boy. They say he and his family were apparently visiting from out of state with relatives.

Conklin says an initial investigation found that the boy was playing with his younger sister when the accident occurred.

He says it appears the boy ran the full length of a hallway and put his hands out to stop himself. That's when the screen popped out of the open window and the boy fell out.
