In 2004, Turner and activist Sadiki Kambon held a news conference where they presented photos they said showed US soldiers in Iraq raping Iraqi women.

The Boston Globe questioned the legitimacy of the photos, which were then proven to be false.

Turner was criticized by political commentators such as Rush Limbaugh and six city councilors.
