The inflatable boat rocked in the gentle waves about 16 miles off Scituate, Mass. as scientists poised to attach electronic tags to humpback whales.

A team of whale experts traveled to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary from around the country this week to monitor humpback whales' movements and sounds with the tags.
