Blue laws: Heed them or laugh at them?
Blue laws -- also known as Puritan laws -- were introduced by Massachusetts' earliest settlers to control human behavior for the common good. Rarely enforced, and mostly ignored, they remain on the books. The most plausible reason these outdated edicts stick around is because it's far less complicated to leave them than eliminate them, a 2005 Globe story reported.
