BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Bangor police say a mental health liaison and an officer were allegedly assaulted while responding to a domestic abuse case in the Maine city.

Officer Tim Shaw says a struggle broke out as he was trying to arrest 24-year-old Anthony King of Bangor on a domestic assault charge and handcuff him. Shaw says King attempted to choke him. A city mental health officer tried to help Shaw during the struggle.

Shaw says he and the mental health liaison were punched and kicked several times before Shaw threatened to use his Taser on the suspect. At that point, King gave up and was handcuffed.

King’s been taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where he faces assault on a police officer, domestic assault, terrorizing and other charges.end of story marker
