SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) — A Scarborough after-school group that practices circus arts has been selected to participate in President Barack Obama’s inaugural parade on Jan. 21.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the Gym Dandies will ride 6-foot unicycles in formation during the 57th Inaugural Parade.

The Gym Dandies are made up of 41 students ages 8-18 who practice circus arts such as unicycle riding, stilt walking and juggling. Jon Cahill, who founded the group when he was a physical education teacher in 1981 in Scarborough, is the director.

The group has performed at more than 80 schools and in many community events in the New England region.end of story marker
