PARIS, Maine (AP) — A 22-year-old western Maine man is going to prison for 40 years for trying to burn down the home where his ex-girlfriend lived while she and her grandparents were asleep.

Andrew Freeman of Paris was sentenced Friday in Oxford County Superior Court.

Freeman was convicted last year of attempted murder, arson and burglary for breaking into the Norway home where his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend lived with her grandparents and setting two fires in the basement in December 2011. Nobody was injured.

The Sun Journal (http://bit.ly/XexN4w ) reported that Assistant District Attorney Joseph O'Connor told the judge that Freeman was the most potentially violent man he'd met.

Freeman’s family members said he had a troubled past and had received psychiatric treatment, but was always polite and had never been malicious.
