AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Court documents say a former Maine drug prosecutor who was convicted on child pornography charges planned to use bogus checks to pay his expenses after he fled from the state.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/XNti1a ) says James Cameron printed two phony checks totaling $74,000 using an insurance account tied to a small online business before he fled from Maine to New Mexico last fall.

An affidavit in federal court in New Mexico says the checks were immediately suspected of being fraudulent and weren’t processed. Cameron was arrested on Dec. 2 in Albuquerque, N.M.

He was convicted of the child pornography charges in 2010, and last week he pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland contempt of court related to his escape. He awaits sentencing in the Strafford County Jail in New Hampshire.
