RANGELEY, Maine (AP) — The Maine Warden Service dive team has recovered one of the three missing snowmobilers who crashed through ice in Rangeley Lake last winter.
The team used a remote operated vehicle Friday in 135 feet of water to retrieve a body tentatively identified as 43-year-old Glenn Henderson of Sabattus. He went missing along with 40-year-old Ken Henderson of China and 41-year-old John Spencer of Litchfield.
Wardens believe they drove onto open water in whiteout conditions on Dec. 31.
The snowmobilers are believed to have gone in the water on the same night a Yarmouth woman was killed when she accidentally rode her snowmobile onto the partially frozen lake.
The Maine Warden Service said search operations were suspended for the weekend. Officials will re-evaluate whether to resume the search on Monday.
