PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A judge has refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Portland Pirates against the Cumberland County Civic Center over a dispute regarding a lease agreement.
The Portland Press Herald reports (http://bit.ly/18LhDLF ) that the decision on Friday means the lawsuit can go forward but it will likely be months before any court action.
The Pirates are seeking a preliminary injunction to ensure that the center doesn’t give away dates for scheduled games this hockey season.
The team is also seeking to maintain an unsigned agreement with the center to share some of the revenue from concession stands and advertising.
An attorney for the civic center says he’s disappointed that the lawsuit was not thrown out but said courts are typically reluctant to stop a lawsuit early in the legal process.
