A Maine horse that escaped its stall was caught unharmed early Wednesday, after a quick-thinking officer was able to subdue the beast with a makeshift lasso.

No, seriously. Police were called to the area of Hammond Street in Bangor around 1 a.m. following reports of a loose horse in the neighborhood.

After some failed attempts to secure the animal, Officer Jose Vidaurri got the smart idea to rig a lasso out of a life preserver rope he found in his cruiser. When fellow officers cornered the creature in a driveway, Vidaurri was able to get the lasso around its neck.

The horse was seemingly unfazed, reportedly nonchalantly munching on grass while awaiting its return to the nearby Hollywood Casino Racetrack.

WMTW-TV reports the department nicknamed their new friend “Horsie.”

It’s not clear how the horse was able to escape from its home.
