Four children suffered non-life-threatening injuries and one horse was killed after a car collided with a horse and buggy from an Amish community in Maine on Monday, a police report said.
According to the report, Stephen Porter, 62, was driving west on US Highway 2 near Island Falls when four children operating a horse-drawn carriage failed to check traffic and pulled out in front of him. Porter’s station wagon struck and killed the horse, and the collision tossed the carriage into the air. The children were thrown from the buggy and were taken to Houlton Regional Hospital for their injuries.
The children—ages 9, 8 , 7, and 5—were part of a local Amish community and were using the carriage to moving wood from one location to another, according to the police report.
The crash remains under investigation.
