The speed limit increased by five miles-per-hour on parts of the Maine Turnpike today. Drivers will now be able to go 60 mph rather than 55 mph while traveling through Portland and 70 mph rather than 65 mph on stretches from Augusta to Portland and from Portland to Portsmouth.

The increased speed limits over the approximately 120-mile stretch of I-95 should shave about 10 minutes off the drive through Maine on the Turnpike—at least for anyone who preciously hugs the highway speed limit.
