Boy, 10, killed in ATV accident behind his home

PALMYRA, Maine --A 10-year-old boy lost his life in an ATV accident in a hayfield behind his home in this central Maine town.

Kason Murphy was dead at the scene of the Friday evening crash off Madawaska Road, the Maine Warden Service said.

Kason was riding the all-terrain vehicle by himself when he apparently made a turn and hit a couple of cement blocks hidden in the tall grass, causing the machine to flip over, Lt. Doug Tibbetts said. The boy was wearing a helmet.

Kason's father and 17-year-old brother were inside the home at the time and his mother was at work. The brother, Kurtis Murphy, went to check on Kason and found him pinned beneath the ATV.

The family had moved to the area from Utah six months ago, Tibbetts said.
