AUGUSTA, Maine—A report that calls for a streamlined permitting process for wind-power projects in Maine has been presented to Gov. John Baldacci.

Baldacci calls the report a consensus document that takes into account diverse views.

The governor said Thursday the level of wind power development endorsed by the report would involve billions of dollars of capital investment in Maine, investment that creates jobs and increases tax revenues.

The Baldacci administration has adopted a policy of reducing Maine's dependence on fossil fuel in a way that is environmentally sound.

Baldacci says the report's recommendations are to be incorporated into legislation this year.
