MACHIAS, Maine—A woman accused of stealing nearly $200,000 from the Calais School Department says she doesn't have enough money to hire a lawyer.

Tina Moholland was instructed Monday during her first appearance in Washington County Superior Court on the process for getting a court-appointed lawyer.

The 36-year-old Calais woman could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges stemming from her alleged thefts over a three-year period from the Calais Day Treatment Program, which is operated by the Calais School Department.

Moholland worked as a secretary, receptionist and bookkeeper. The program treats children who suffer from a variety of medical, emotional, neurological and behavioral problems that require residential treatment.
