AUGUSTA, Maine—Maine lawmakers are scheduled Tuesday to take up a bill that would allow a 400 slot machines on Indian Island in Old Town.

The bill is left over from last session. It would allocate portions of net slot revenues to several recipients that include gambling addiction services, state university and community colleges, and other Maine tribes not licensed to operate slot machines.

Opponents say Maine voters last fall rejected a gambling proposal that proposed a racino in Washington County.

A separate casino proposal which has not been up for a legislative vote seeks to allow a casino in Oxford County. Unless the Legislature passes the bill exactly as proposed, it will go to voters in a referendum this fall.
