East Machias man pleads not guilty in stepson's death

MACHIAS, Maine—A 22-year-old East Machias man has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 2-year-old stepson.

William Bryson entered the plea Monday in Washington County Superior Court.

Bryson is accused of acting negligently in the death of Damon Nason on March 2, the day after the boy was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

According to an affidavit, Damon had bruises on his chin, head, throat and buttocks. Bryson told police that the boy fell in the bathtub while taking a bath.
