ORONO, Maine—Two University of Maine students have been ordered to appear in court next month for allegedly starting a fire in their dormitory by putting light bulbs in a microwave and turning it on.

A resident of Androscoggin Hall reported a fire Tuesday in the microwave in the common area. Her description of two men seen leaving the area led police to 19-year-old Joshua Brown and 20-year-old Trevor Holmquist, who both live on campus.

University spokesman Joe Carr said Brown and Holmquist allegedly removed the bulbs from fixtures in the room and zapped them in the microwave, starting the fire.

The two received summonses to appear in Bangor District Court on June 5 on charges of reckless conduct.
