Troops arrive in N. Maine to assist in flood recovery

FORT KENT, Maine—Up to 75 National Guard troops are fanning out across Fort Kent and other locations to assist in the cleanup following floods.

Bruce Fitzgerald from the Maine Emergency Management Agency says 40 soldiers were assigned Sunday to Fort Kent, which bore the brunt of last week's flooding. He says the soldiers will help to clear roadways and remove debris.

The St. John River crested last week above 30 feet, the highest level ever recorded at Fort Kent. The latest aerial estimate conducted Saturday indicates more than 400 structures could have suffered damage in northern Maine.
