Fires hit western Maine

FRYEBURG, Maine --As if Thursday's thunderstorms weren't enough, fires struck in two western Maine towns, destroying an auto parts store in Fryeburg and a ballfield grandstand in West Paris.

Firefighters were still at the scene of a blaze that burned down the NAPA auto parts store in Fryeburg and damaged a neighboring house. An electrical problem is suspected as the cause and no injuries are reported.

In West Paris, fire Thursday evening destroyed the Perham Field grandstand that's long been a landmark in town. Firefighters said they could see smoke from the station and when they got to the fire, the grandstand was already engulfed in flames.
