Conservationists grade Maine governor
PORTLAND, Maine --A Maine conservation group is giving Gov. John Baldacci a B-minus for his administration's work over the last two years on issues ranging from air quality to fisheries and wildlife.
The Maine League of Conservation Voters' second report card on Baldacci says he slipped since 2006 in several areas, including air quality and climate change, energy, forestry, fish and game and land conservation. It also gives lower grades in marine resources and wilderness issues.
But the group says the administration stayed the same in growth issues, and in regulating toxics and water quality.
The nonpartisan league also rates legislators on conservation issues.
Baldacci's grade slipped in air quality from A-plus, but the A he was given in that category this year was his highest. He also got an A for toxics reduction. ![]()
