WINTER HARBOR, Maine—Maine's annual lobster boat race season has come to an end with more than 70 boats taking part in the final races over the weekend in Winter Harbor.

According to Maine Lobster Boat Racing Association President Jon Johansen, Saturday's races provided the largest field of the season. The season kicked off in June with races in Boothbay Harbor, followed by contests in Rockland, Jonesport, Stonington, Harpswell and other ports.

Lobster boat racing dates back to the early 1900s, with modern-day races dating back to the 1960s.

Boat owners compete for cash prizes and points that are tallied up during the season. Awards in each class will be presented during an awards ceremony in September.
