Hanna exits Maine after drenching rain

PORTLAND, Maine—Fast-moving Tropical Storm Hanna exited Maine on Sunday after a night of gusty winds and drenching rain that flooded roads and basements.

Some portions of the state were hit with more than an inch of wind-driven rain per hour during the height of the storm.

The heaviest rain fell along the coast, where more than 7 inches was reported in Bar Harbor and nearly as much in portions of York and Lubec.

The strong northeast winds caused isolated power outages. Most of those reported by Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. were in the Machias area, while Central Maine Power said its outages were concentrated in its Alfred service district.

Hanna's departure was followed by brighter skies and drier air, providing improved conditions for the second and final day of the Great State of Maine Air Show in Brunswick.
