RUMFORD, Maine - Detectives were searching yesterday for a man seen fleeing from a house where two men were shot to death, police said.

Investigators believe that the man, who had long black hair, shot Roger Day, 48, and Victor Sheldon, 22, in their home before fleeing shortly before 10 p.m. Monday. Both were shot in the head, according to the state medical examiner’s office.

The suspect may have had a glove or bandage on one hand, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. A third man who was inside the house at the time of the shooting has been questioned, said McCausland.

Yesterday, state and local law enforcement officers, working with search dogs, continued to canvass the neighborhood near the crime scene.

The shooting happened the same day a domestic assault charge against Sheldon was dropped, the Sun Journal newspaper reported.

“At this point, we’re not ruling anything in or out,’’ McCausland said.
