AUBURN, Maine—A 29-year-old Oxford woman has pleaded not guilty to charges she embezzled more than $100,000 from the Lewiston law firm where she once worked.

The Lewiston Sun Journal says Amy L. Christiansen appeared Thursday in Androscoggin County Superior Court where she entered the plea.

The indictment says Christiansen embezzled the money from the law firm Berman and Simmons between 2007 and early 2009.

After the indictment was announced the firm released a statement saying Christiansen had admitted to the alleged theft.

Christiansen is free on personal recognizance.

If convicted she could be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
