Maine work-release inmate charged in drug case

BELFAST, Maine—Maine drug agents say they've charged a work-release inmate with drug trafficking for allegedly buying illegal drugs while on work release and smuggling them back into the Maine State Prison.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Director Roy McKinney says 30-year-old Craig Reimer of Rockland was charged Thursday while in Belfast working for a construction company.

Investigators suspected Reimer was buying prescription methadone and oxycodone pills while on work release and then selling them to other inmates after bring them back to prison.

Officials say at the time of his arrest, Reimer had nine methadone tablets in his possession that were packaged to be smuggled into the prison.
