CUMBERLAND, Maine—Ival "Bud" Cianchette (chin-KETT), a founding brother of one of Maine's largest construction firms, has died.

Cianchette, who was 83, had been suffering from cancer when he died at his home in Cumberland Thursday night.

Cianchette and his brothers founded Cianbro (CHIN-bro). Outside of business, Cianchette was active in politics. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2004, alongside his son Peter, who ran for governor in 2002.

Gov. John Baldacci and members of Maine's congressional delegation issued statements mourning Cianchette's death.
