CASTINE, Maine—The Castine Historical Society is hosting a traveling exhibit about the life of American Civil War President Abraham Lincoln.
The exhibition entitled "Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America," features reproductions of Lincoln artifacts. It opened in Castine last week.
The Portland Press Herald says there are also local displays filled with Lincoln-era memorabilia collected from the surrounding area.
The exhibit marks the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth in 1809. Castine is the exhibit's only Maine location and one of just 40 sites nationwide.
Patty Hutchins of Castine's Wilson Museum says she thinks the town was chosen to host the exhibit because Castine was the hometown of Lincoln friend and associate Noah Brooks, one of the last people to see Lincoln before his 1865 assassination.
