PLEASANT POINT, Maine—The Bureau of Indian Affairs has ended a land-lease agreement between the Passamaquoddy Tribe and an Oklahoma company that hoped to build a liquefied natural gas terminal in eastern Maine.
The tribe voted last June to terminate its contract with Quoddy Bay LNG, but the company objected.
The company had contended the project is still viable, but Quoddy Bay President Donald Smith said previously that his company ran out of money. He wasn't immediately available for comment Tuesday.
Quoddy Bay withdrew its applications for state and federal permits last year. It had hoped to build the LNG terminal on Passamaquoddy tribal land at Pleasant Point.
