Three Maine airports are getting grants totaling more than $22 million that will go toward improving their runways. US Senator Susan M. Collins said the Department of Transportation grants are going to the Portland International Jetport, Augusta State Airport, and the Brunswick Executive Airport. The Portland airport is getting $12.7 million to build a runway safety area and rehabilitate parts of the runway and taxiway. The Brunswick airport will use its $4.2 million grant to buy snow removal equipment and improve utilities and runway lighting. The Augusta airport’s $5.2 million grant will go toward improving the runway.
