Maine approves revised Oakfield wind project

AUGUSTA, Maine—State environmental regulators have approved a revised plan for the Oakfield wind power project in northern Maine.
The Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday approved First Wind's project, which will consist of 50 turbines of 3 megawatts each. Together they'll have the capacity to produce enough energy for 48,000 homes.
The DEP two years ago approved a smaller version of the project, which proposed 34 turbines.
First Wind, based in Massachusetts, said it's been working with the town of Oakfield for more than four years to bring about the project, with more than 30 public meetings and a public review process for the permit application.
