PORTLAND, Maine—A prominent lawyer and civic leader can no longer practice law in Maine.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court has suspended Warren Turner of Yarmouth for numerous violations of Maine's rules of professional conduct, including failure to respond to clients, to return their property or to appear at some court hearings. He also didn't show up at three hearings before the Board of Overseers' grievance commission to respond to complaints.

Turner served on the Yarmouth Town Council at various times between 1979 and 2003 and was once chairman of the Cumberland County Civic Center boards of trustees.

The Portland Press Herald ( http://bit.ly/wvjaqM) said Turner could not be reached for comment by phone or email.
