LEWISTON, Maine—Maine Congressman Mike Michaud says he has no plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Olympia Snowe.

The Democrat announced late Thursday that he will instead focus on his duty serving the people of Maine as a member of the U.S. House.

There had been speculation that Michaud would run for the seat after Republican Snowe announced she would not seek-re-election.

Michaud said in a statement that while he was "humbled by all the support and encouragement" he received, he wants to continue to represent the "wonderful people of Maine."

Snowe cited partisanship as one reason she is not seeking re-election.

Michaud echoed her sentiments. He says he's "frustrated" with how Washington operates and believes both parties have "fallen into a partisan rut."
