WALDOBORO, Maine—Police are investigating an accident in Waldoboro that killed an 81-year-old woman.

Authorities say Florence Bryant of Belfast was killed at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a car in which she was riding was struck from behind by a pickup truck on Route 1.

Police say Bryant's husband, 75-year-old Richard Bryant, had slowed down to make a left turn when the truck rear-ended the car.

Richard Bryant was taken by medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The driver of the pickup truck, along with his wife and their child, were taken to Pen Bay Hospital.
