Residents expressed ongoing concern about road safety on York Street during a July 24 selectmen’s meeting. A spokesman for the York Street Neighborhood Association asked the board to secure as much mitigation funding as possible for traffic-calming measures to offset the impact of a 250-unit housing development by Avalon Communities that will be located at the Canton-Randolph line. Selectmen are negotiating with the developer to determine this funding. The neighborhood group also made other suggestions, including that Norfolk County perform a traffic study of the area; installation of a solar-powered radar speed sign; and additional pedestrian crosswalks and sidewalks. The Traffic Advisory Committee, which includes the police chief and superintendent of the Department of Public Works, is reviewing the suggestions.
