The Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department recently held a topping-off ceremony for the new building it is constructing on North Avenue. The department’s board members and managers joined representatives of the project’s architectural, engineering, and construction companies at the ceremony, which marked the placement of the last steel beam on the building. The new facility and a new garage occupy the site of the department’s former garage, which was demolished as part of the project. The department, whose offices are on Albion Street, plans to consolidate all its operations at the new building once it is completed next summer. Like the former garage, the new building will be named after the late Mark A. Delory, a department gas worker who was fatally struck by a car while working in 2006.
