The state has agreed to stall any further cleanup efforts at the former Medfield State Hospital property until next summer or fall. In an announcement at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting Tuesday, Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiller said the decision was a result of mediation sessions with the town. The mediation agreement also includes a gag order that limits any discussions on the delay to information about the permits that has already been made public, Trierweiller said. The state Division of Capital Management has agreed to put its permit applications for dredging the Charles River and cleanup work on the riverbank at the hospital site on hold. According to Trierweiller, the delay would give the state Department of Environmental Protection and the town time to incorporate residents’ comments on plans for the hospital site’s reuse and cleanup. Because of the gag order, no further information was available from the town.
