Appraisals to help the library

The trustees and the Friends of the Thayer Public Library will host an appraisal day on Sept. 15 at Braintree Town Hall to help raise money for library activities. According to library staff, locals are encouraged to take up to three items to Town Hall from 2 to 7 p.m. to be examined by certified appraisers from Kelley Auctions. Also on hand will be coin and stamp experts, who can value items including broken gold or silver jewelry. Appraisals cost $10 for one item, $20 for two items, and $25 for three items. Members of the Friends will have their third item appraised free. The event is by appointment only, and the library hopes to attract members to the Friends organization, as well as raise money, Assistant Library Director Connie Collier said. “We haven’t done anything like this before, and we were playing on the Antiques Road Show program on Channel 2 when people bring in their antiques. So we’re hoping we would draw those people in, and this is a good price to have a couple of items done,” she said. “If they got up to $1,500 to $2,000, that would be incredible.” For appointments, call Janice Weitbrecht at 781-356-3748. ![]()
