A regional group is raising funds for a Veterans Appreciation Day parade in Lynn next year. The North Shore Veterans Appreciation Committee held a parade honoring area veterans in Swampscott in June 2010 and intends to hold a second one in Lynn on Sept. 15, 2013. The group needs to raise nearly $60,000 in private donations to pay for the parade. As part of the effort, the committee is holding a fund-raiser on Sept. 8 from 7 p.m. to midnight at St. Michael’s Hall, 25 Elmwood Ave. The evening will feature musical entertainment from the Brian Maes Band and from the Dirty Floorboards, along with raffles, door prizes, and a silent auction. “The positive response we received after the 2010 Veterans Appreciation Parade in Swampscott was overwhelming,” John Sacherski, the committee’s chairman and the commander of Swampscott Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1240, said in a prepared statement. “Lynn has a longstanding, proud military history and the committee is working hard to bring Lynn a parade the community will be proud of.” Tickets are $20 and available at the Department of Veterans’ Services office at City Hall or by calling Sacherski 781-599-1240.
