According to Traffic Enforcement Officer Marc Saucier, the Police Department has acquired two portable speed-display units intended to encourage drivers to slow down. Saucier said the new units are replacing speed displays on trailers and are much less obtrusive. The new units, which use a large LED display to show the speed of passing vehicles, can be mounted to various types of utility and sign poles in most neighborhoods. They also can record traffic data, such as speeds, volume, and congestion, for the Police Department. Residents can suggest locations for the new speed-display units, based on their concerns about traffic in their neighborhood or other parts of town, Saucier said.
