Local residents have a chance to sample an array of dishes from varied ethnic traditions while also helping to make Winthrop cleaner and greener. The annual “Taste of Winthrop” will be held on Sept. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Winthrop Yacht Club, 649 Shirley St. Organized by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, “Taste of Winthrop” will feature more than 30 area restaurants, cafes, caterers, bakeries, and hotels offering samples of dishes ranging from appetizers and entrees to desserts and baked goods, drawn from Italian, Greek, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, Columbian, and other cuisines. Proceeds from the event, which also includes specialty cocktails and live entertainment, will benefit the chamber’s beautification program, which funds plantings and cleanup efforts in the town’s business districts. Last year, the program also helped pay for new litter receptacles and a graffiti-removal initiative. For more information, call 617-846-9898 or go to www.winthropchamber.com.end of story marker
