Residents of the village of Waterbury will vote this November on whether to abolish their Police Department. The village has merged its fire and public works departments with those of the adjacent town of Waterbury. Village trustees president Skip Flanders said the vote is a chance for village leaders to learn from residents whether they want to continue with the police force, which currently has a chief and two officers, although one of the officer jobs has not been filled. Village trustees voted Wednesday night to put the question on the November ballot. end of story marker
