The Reading Police Department was recently honored at the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge awards ceremony for its efforts in 2011 to reduce fatalities, injuries, and economic losses resulting from motor vehicle accidents. This year, the Massachusetts State Police and 23 municipal police departments were honored. The law enforcement challenge is a joint effort of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's Highway Safety Division. The program recognizes police departments for their traffic safety efforts, including traffic enforcement, public information, education, and training.
