BOSTON (AP) — Democrat Joseph Kennedy III has announced plans to participate in three debates ahead of the November election in the state’s 4th Congressional District.
Kennedy’s Republican rival Sean Bielat (BEE'-lat) said in a letter to Kennedy that three debates is far too few. Bielat said he’s already accepted 16 debate requests.
Bielat said when he was running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Barney Frank in 2010, the two appeared at up to 10 debates or joint editorial board meetings.
Since Frank decided not to seek re-election, Bielat said it’s important for both candidates to agree to as many public debates as possible across the newly redrawn district.
Kennedy, a member of the famous political family, said in statement that he and Bielat have ‘‘fundamentally different ideas for the future’’ of the country.
