Two women told Boston police that an armed man invaded their East Boston home and attempted to rape them before beating one of the victims with a handgun and fleeing, police said. Authorities have issued a community alert to residents. Police said officers responded to a report of a woman screaming in the area of Coleridge Street at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. Police said one of the women managed to escape and run for help. Police described the suspect as a white male, 6 feet tall, medium build, 180 pounds in his late-20s to mid-30s, clean shaven, and wearing a black knit hat, short-sleeve gray T-shirt, and dark shorts.
