Hazardous waste collection day set for Oct. 20

Residents can preregister for Saugus’s annual hazardous waste collection day. The collection, scheduled this year for Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon, is open only to Saugus residents who preregister. Details, including the location of the dropoff site, will be provided to residents when they preregister. Materials accepted range from oil-based paints to paint thinners, photography chemicals, pesticides, antifreeze, and car batteries. Disposal is free for all accepted items, except for propane tanks, which require a $5 sticker, and car and truck tires, which require a $2 sticker and a $10 sticker, respectively. All stickers must be purchased from the Inspectional Services Department prior to the collection. Materials not accepted include commercial waste and explosives.
