After 16 years, president of Bunker Hill Community College has announced her retirement, effective in summer 2013. In her time as president, Mary L. Fifield increased enrollment by 117 percent, as well as aiding the school’s expansion, according to a statement from the college. Fifield also helped the college win the top award from the New England Board of Higher Education for excellence in academic programming, the statement said. Fifield established programs to “help students facing short-term financial crises” and created degrees in fields such as science and technology, the college said.
