Local youths honored with President’s Volunteer Service Award

Twenty local teens, ages 14 to 18, were honored Thursday by the Reading Coalition Against Substance Abuse  at the organization’s annual meeting for their commitment to the coalition. The students received the President’s Volunteer Service Award  for contributing a combined total of 300 volunteer service hours during the summer. Recognized were: Samantha Abate, Emily Ames, Claire Bishop, Maggie Breen, Jill Callahan, Jacob Camenker, Zach Camenker, Erin Cunningham, Kate DeBenedetto, Jennifer Dockser, Julia Dudley-Kramer, Scott Freeman, Sophia Kalogeris, Kelsey McCarthy, Jack Shannon, Avery Stroman, Ashley Testa, Abigail Vieno, Alex Webb, and Meghan Whelan. Each of the students received a bronze medal lapel pin, a personal letter, and a certificate signed by President Obama.  end of story marker
